Does resin take 30 days to cure?

1:1 craft resin will usually be ready to un-mould within 24 hours, 2:1 deep pour resin may make 72 hours and fast cure resins can be ready in a matter of hours. Using a heat mat or curing machine can speed these times up too. But, have you heard people asking if it really does take 30 days for resin to be fully cured?

What does fully cure mean?

Fully cure means the point at which your resin reaches its full potential (i.e. full heat resistance, scratch resistance and strength).

Cure time or demoulding is slightly different. This is the point where your resin can be taken out of its mould without loosing its shape.

How long does resin take to cure?

Let’s take a look at what some of the top brands have to say.

Apex Resin Cure Time

  • Fast Cure – This 1:1 ratio resin is touch dry in 2 hours at 25°C (full cure 24 Hours).
  • High Gloss – Again a 1:1 ratio resin. This general purpose resin is touch dry in 16 – 20 hours at 25°C (full cure in 1-2 Days).
  • Deep Cast – This deep pou resin can be demould in a speedy 16 – 24 hours (based on constant room temperature of  25ºc and pour depth of 15cm).
Cure time of pours below 15cm raises slightly to approx 24 – 48 hours.
Cure times can vary based on pour depth and room temperature. This resin can be sanded after 3 – 5 days suggesting this is what is needed for full hardness.

Mould Resin Cure Time

  • Mouldd resin takes 24 hours to cure and 7 days to become fully heat resistant.

Even though this is a really small sample of the resins that are available to purchase, it shows there’s a huge variation in the recommended cure time. We suggest always being cautious and laying your items flat even after curing time to ensure they don’t bend. We also suggest waiting 30 days before selling any items so that you can be certain your piece will be fully cured.

Always read your chosen resin’s instructions and follow them carefully. Remember they will vary!
